What Time Of Year Can You Get Rid Of Bats In Ohio?
The exclusion of more than 15 individual bats from a structure during the time period of May 16th through July 31st requires written authorization from the Division of Wildlife (DOW) under Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 1501:31-15-03. Download the PDF, here.
To remove unwanted bats from a building in Ohio, you must place an exclusion device over their main entrance and seal all other holes. Exclusion devices allow bats to safely exit the house but keeps them from getting back inside. After leaving the device up for several days and ensuring all bats are gone, the device can be removed and the last exit sealed.
All bats in Ohio are declining and protected in some form or another and cannot be intentionally harmed. Therefore, you should not kill the bats in your attic as it is illegal in Ohio.
However, they should be removed due to potential health concerns for humans. Feces from bats and birds can hold a lung infection disease known as histoplasmosis. For this reason, it is advised that after excluding the bats, the attic is thoroughly cleaned with proper protective gear. For more information about histoplasmosis, you can visit the Center for Disease Control website.
Is Raccoon Relocation Legal In Ohio?

It shall be unlawful to fail to euthanize, or release on site, any nuisance raccoon, that is captured, trapped or taken. What Do You Do If A Coyote Is In Your Backyard?
If the coyote visiting your yard seems to lack a fear of humans or is presenting a conflict even after removing attractants from your yard, contact a nuisance trapper such as the Cottom’s Wildlife Removal company. Coyotes in rural areas of Ohio can be controlled through legal hunting and trapping methods. See the Ohio Hunting & Trapping Regulations for more information.
Is It Legal To Kill Nuisance Snakes In Ohio?
Ohio is home to the endangered Copperbelly Water Snake and the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake. Both snakes are under Federal and State protections. Except for endangered snakes, Ohio doesn’t regulate the killing of snakes. Ohio is also home to Timber Rattlesnakes and Eastern Copperheads.
In Ohio, there is no specified bag limit for any snake species. There is also no defined season. Only the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake and Copperbelly Water Snake are considered non-game animals. That means other species are fair game. The Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake is listed on the ESA list of endangered species.
If you encounter a venomous snake in your yard, take it seriously. The snake should be removed to ensure that no one, including pets, gets hurt. Note: This does not mean the snake has to be killed. In many places, you can call animal- control or local police or fire departments to remove the snake.
Can You Kill Nongame Birds In Ohio?
European starlings, English sparrows, and common pigeons, other than homing pigeons, may be killed at any time and their nests or eggs may be destroyed at any time. Blackbirds may be killed at any time when doing damage to grain or other property or when they become a nuisance.
